Blackout! | 06/04/08

Because they were having so much fun in DC, my parents decided to stay for most of the day on Wednesday too. We had an early lunch at the Cheesecake Factory; I had never been there before. It was a lot nicer than I thought. The cheesecake was absolutely excellent but they apparently mistranslated ahi tuna as "burn that tuna". Oh well. After lunch we came back to my house and played a few more games of Wii bowling before my dad and I went over some financial findings. Because it was storming so badly we decided to wait to drive to Rockville to get the rental car until around 4:30. The traffic was a nightmare and it took over two hours to get to Rockville. The problem (other than every driver in this town truly believes the signs only apply to everyone else) was that Rockville had no power--mighty inconvenient to be on the Rockville Pike/Wisconsin Ave. with no power at rush hour...at the junction of 495 and 270. We eventually made it and then crawled our way back to TGIF for dinner. My food was pretty disgusting and combined with service that can only be described as non-existent, my parents and I parted company around 9pm. Knowing there was no power in Rockville I thought I could be sneaky and get on 495 and look around into Bethesda but surprise! No power there either. Driving on 495 with that many cars and no non-car lights was a harrowing experience but I did make it back safely and my house was one of the the few with power as the storms had apparently decimated the nice part of DC.
