Slave to the Market | 10/04/05

If I could answer one question for humankind it would be: How do you live independently? I'm not talking about moving out of your parents' house or making lots of money. But to really be independent. How not to be just some sucker in the system. I'm a sucker. I'm a total sucker because I buy lots of crap. Crap I don't need. Since I don't watch much TV most of my must-haves come from people I know. My personal problem is I have no real concept of what I need and I don't need. I don't think I need three fishtanks but I don't know how to get rid of them. You're saying: throw them out. And I'm saying I can't. There are fish living in there. And what if I need those old National Geographics in my closet? You never know when you'll have to make a collage of Tibet or African Gazelles for your Ph.D in music. See, if I had to make a list of things I could get rid of I might be able to put like two things on it. I need someone just to come into my house while I'm at work, grab my stuff and throw it away. But because I like general stuff I'm a slave to the market. And that's bad. Coming from a farming family you'd think I'd have a greater understand of bare necessities and working hard to get the few things you have but no. So if you're town and want to, y'know, go through someone's house and throw away things on a whim call me.
