Math Sudoku | 01/18/06

After giving jamie a good whomping in tennis I settled in to address the problem of the night: if I have all 81 squares of a Sudoku puzzle, how many boards can I generate from this? It's a lot like (from what I remember anyway) transformational music theory. You have a row, manipulate it with some univerisal pattern and call it a day. Unlike music theory, though, this is more fun (and interesting--booyah). I had generated a couple dozen before I ran out of PHP skills. I wound up with a single array holding all 81 values and couldn't find a way to change certain slots' values. Oh well. I have a sneaking suspicion that you can generate every combination from a single "correct" set. We'll see.
