Tae Kwon Don't | 01/23/06
For those of you that don't know, a couple of us at work (Christine, Barb and I) decided that we were going to start taking Tae Kwon Do. Our .NET programmer is a black belt so we thought it would be fun. Tonight was our sample and it went something like this:
First things first, I bought this novelty T-Shirt to wear that says I've Got Your Dynomite...Right Here and there's a big powder keg in the middle. I thought it was classy. Anyway, we get there and we go in. Everyone bows to us and the head guy came out. He took us into an office and wanted to show us all the awesome aspects of Tae Kwon Do. He told us we could "attack" him all at once and he'd be able to block all three of us. We were a little apprehensive but we reluctantly agreed. Sure enough, he blocked Christine and I with consectutive arm blocks and was able to catch Barb's punch with his fist. Awesome! Once we were thoroughly impressed he took us into the main gym where some black belts were training. He paired them into twos and made them spar for us. There were some pretty sweet leaping scissor kicks but no one was hurt. One larger, awkward teen did take a terrible chop to the neck though from a 50-year old woman. Cool. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the gym. For the dozens of sweaty middle schoolers that were in there before the black belt class it didn't stink at all. We went back into his office and held up these black flapping-pads for us to punch. Both Christine and Barb hit it pretty hard but I missed it twice of the 10 times. He then made me hold it up way above my head. Then he, all maybe 5'5" of him leapt into the air and kicked it! I must have been holding it a good 7 feet off the ground. Wow! We then sat down and were able to negotitate a deal where we could have the first six months for free! We're starting soon!
