Thursday: March 01, 2007 - Fun While It Lasted Fun While It Lasted I shouldn't have written yesterday's Free Cell entry. Within a few games my streak was over. Oh well.

Man, did it storm last night. The lightning was so constant it was as bright as afternoon at 3am. Because of the tornado warning I slept downstairs on the couch. The poor pup moved from hiding place to hiding place and ultimately settled behind the wicker chair after a long stint in the bathroom.

I also gave up on the ole Google ads after 0 clicks in three months and replaced it with an Amazon banner. So, uh, buy stuff through. Thanks.

Weekend: March 03, 2007 - Start Your Hunting Start Your Hunting Since Jamie has been in Washington DC this weekend I've taken time to start working on one of my pet projects that everything thinks is retarded except for me. An online scavenger hunt. This weekend I made the design and wrote the structural parts as well as the registration section. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of the month.

Last night Chris hosted poker and seven people showed up. I selfishly collected all the money again and ensured my first-out-ness for at least the rest of the month. There's something about winning back-to-back games that guarantees early losses for a while. Jamie won four in a row in November of 2004 and she lost for almost a year after that. That's the poker gods at work. It was also decided to go back to the PCS system since my new way sucked. Anyway, here are last night's stats and I'll calculate the PCS stuff this afternoon.

1) Mike (AA,C?,CE,IH,RG)
2) Amy
3) Christen (CE,TB)
4) Chris
5) Ian
6) Renee
7) Tim

Chris was double-killed by Christen and me but my stats don't like having non-integers in the kill column.

Sunday: March 04, 2007 - PCS Update PCS Update
Now remember the PCS is like the BCS--your percentage is essentially the average position you finish each game. It is derived by taking your total positions added together, divided by the number of games you've played. There are no bonuses for winning, nor for kills.

1) Mike (2.16) [13 Kills]
T2) Chris (3.00) [8 Kills]
T2) Amy (3.00) [0 Kills]
4) Ian (3.33) [3 Kills]
5) Jamie (4.25) [4 Kills]
6) Christen (4.75) [2 Kills]
7) Renee (6.33) [1 Kill]

And there you have the PCS in all its glory.

Tuesday: March 06, 2007 - Desktop Defender Flash Game Desktop Defender Flash Game Holy crap. This game is so addicting. It took me three days of not updating my blog to beat it on Normal. Once you're ready to kill yourself, here is the solution I used to beat it. So now, if you're ready to play it I took the liberty of downloading a copy so when Comcast goes down I can continue to play it. Play it now!

Wednesday: March 07, 2007 - I love Sayid I love Sayid Ok seriously, is Sayid not the best character on Lost? I can see the spin-off Lost: New Orleans starring him right now. I admit, it was a little unbelievable that he lifted up the rug and the trap door was there after seeing the imaginary cat scratching at it, but who cares? Not me, that's for sure. It was pretty fortunate that he got that map before John Locke blew the Flame Hatch up. Speaking of which, when did John become so stupid? When they first got there he was a voice of logic and reason and now he's regressed into a bumbling fool. And what's up with The Hostiles? Are they The Others? Did The Others just kill them off? Finally, they need to kill of more of the Extras in the camp. I'm sick of seeing these people with one line showing up all over the place now. I will also miss Sawyers nicknames; that was one of my favorite part of the shows, Lardo. Thursday: March 08, 2007 - Clemson Sucks Clemson Sucks I hate Clemson. I hate everything about Clemson. They managed to lose to FSU in Round 1 of the ACC Tournament by one point. Clemson started the season 17-0. What a turnaround. I enjoy seeing them lose so I'm glad they were able to give FSU the win. The downside is that now FSU has to play North Carolina and that will not be a pretty game. I hope FSU manages to make the NCAA Tournament since I'm home all day I can watch them play. Speaking of which, I can't wait for baseball season to start so I can watch those Cubbies. Go Cubs! Friday: March 09, 2007 - Week O' Chris N' Mike Week O Why yes, it has been a long time since I wrote a blog entry. Chris and Mike took their Spring Break from IU to visit all of us in Tallahassee. Once I get a few pictures from Chris' cell phone I'll post the full week, including a special C&M version of the 12 Of 12.

You will notice the date of this entry is actually last Friday, a full week behind today. Check back often as the past week fills in as I get back on schedule.

Last Friday I went in to RD to finish up some stuff for GAFF (hah! Or what I thought at the time would be finishing stuff up). In response to the question I am most frequently asked: No, I have not started my new job yet and no, I don't want to talk about it. Stay tuned for Saturday--a day full of cleaning and Apples to Apples.

Saturday: March 10, 2007 - Apples to Apples Apples to Apples Jamie and I (ok, Jamie) spent most of the day cleaning in preparation for our guests' arrival. Once they arrived and settled in Jamie sprang on them a new board game: Apples to Apples. Maybe it was the game itself or maybe other...variables but it was a riot. We, as we did many moons ago, played through all of the cards to the game in one sitting. By the time we finished it was approaching 3am and we elected to call it a night.

Well, I suppose Ann Frank did have to be somewhat quiet. I'm going with Quiet. -Jamie

I guess hot lava would be the most irritating. -Chris

Sunday: March 11, 2007 - Poker Night Poker Night Ah, Poker Night. The four of us trotted over to Renee and Ian's around 6:30 to settle in to some poker. Ian made some sort of delicious chicken and mashed potato dish (how can you lose with that combination?) and Chris volunteered some of now-famous pepperoni bread. Ian was the star of the show, ending his string of 2nd place finishes and ruining the nights of everyone else. We stuck around to see if Renee could make a comeback against her boy toy but it was not to be. After leaving our $5 in Ian's wallet we adjourned home. Once there Chris and I broke out some red wine and Jamie and Mike(r) met up with Carlos for a night of dancing. Since Chris and I are old we fell asleep early and the rest of the part returned around 3am-ish.

Monday: March 12, 2007 - 12 Of 12: Chris and Mike Edition 12 Of 12: Chris and Mike Edition As inspired by the Untitled Chad Darnell Project.

2:30 am: Chris and I have finished our wine for the night and we are awaiting the return of our significant others. The contrast was pretty poor because of the lack of the light so I took the liberty of adjusting the contrast so you could see the clock through the wine glasses.

11:00am: I finally woke up and let the dogs out. They took the liberty of finding their own breakfast (acorns) and bringing all of the shells inside of my freshly-vacuumed carpet.

1:30pm: Time for Gordo's. This is the inside of my El Gordo. You call those little nuggets of meat bacon? Come on! We learned that the main guy that runs it is some sort of sex pervert and in jail for having a bunch of lewd, underage pictures. Just what I want to be thinking about while they're making my food.

3:00pm: Chris, Kevin and Michael. You might notice I already used this picture once a few days ago but with Kevin photoshopped out. Sorry buddy! You probably can't tell from this picture but Kevin's got biceps so big they have their own biceps. And just look at those pearly whites.

3:30pm: So Chris and I are going to SBUX and we get stuck behind this fire truck. Turns out this car "accidentally" drove forward instead of reverse, went over the Bank of America embankment (raised) and came to rest atop this other car. Fortunately no one was hurt and it was right outside where we were sitting. The guy who didn't know how to operate his transmission told a terrible lie saying that some other phantom car had rammed him from the SBUX lot (???), his car flew up in the air and landed on the other car. Whoa dude. That's enough excitement for one iced venti vanilla latte.

4:45pm: Nothing like a little dog nap in the middle of an exciting day.

6:15pm: Here's me cooking three packages of Japanese Chicken. Remind me not to wear that shirt again; it looks so emo. And that reminds me of a joke: I wish my lawn were emo so it would cut itself.

8:00pm: We are very excited to be going to Leon Pub.

10:45pm: Sorry to wake you up pup but it's time to play Apples to Apples (again).

12:15am: You can't tell from this stunning overhead shot but the coffee table is actually off the ground because Michael and I had so many victory cards. I'm going to have to say that being inside the sun is the most uncomfortable. Inside The Sun. -Jimmy

1:30am: It's late but who cares. I'm about to play by The Common Loon card for the word "Ordinary". Chris correctly judged it to be the winner. Sorry Heather, Festering Wounds was just not appropriate.

2:30am: With all of the rooms, beds and couches booked at the inn poor Chompy has to sleep on the floor. Man, that picture is funny.

BONUS: Our guests of honor.

Tuesday: March 13, 2007 - A Day of RD A Day of RD On Tuesday we all met up with the RD gang for lunch at Paradigm. Kurt was kind enough to buy all nine of us lunch. After lunch I forced Chris and Mike to get another coffee with me. It was a slow afternoon; I did some work for FH and they hung out downstairs. Around dinner time they headed out to Chili's to meet up with some of their other (lesser) friends. Michael returned fist and he, Jamie and I Settled into some Catan. We churned out two games with Miker and I each winning one. [Comments: 0]· permalink · Bookmark A Day of RD at del.icio.us · Digg A Day of RD · Bloglines: A Day of RD

Wednesday: March 14, 2007 - All About The Pork Roast All About The Pork Roast For our last dinner Chris cooked us a delicious pork roast with fried noodles. I didn't think I was very hungry before I sat down but man, that was good. After dinner we were supposed to go over to Heather and Jimmy's but that didn't happen. Since they were leaving so early Thursday morning Chris headed to bed and Michael, Jamie and I played one last game of Catan, where I assumed the role of bad loser. Jamie won. Thursday: March 15, 2007 - Goodbye Friends Goodbye Friends Early Thursday morning Chris and Mike headed back to Indiana. Bummer. I slept until noon (again) because I learned that I am old and cannot have fun consecutive days in a row without my body being upset. The week went by quickly, as I thought it would, and my house is still surprisingly clean. I guess I'm the prime mess-maker (after Abby) so having company over wouldn't really influence anything except that I'm more distracted from my mess-making.

Here's a picture of Abby as a puppy. No real reason other than I came across it while looking for some good pictures to put up.

Weekend: March 17, 2007 - Jackass 2 Jackass 2 This weekend Jamie and I caught up on our TV use. We rented and watched three episodes of Six Feet Under to see the Series Finale on Bravo Monday night. Man, that is a great show. I think I might buy the boxed set and watch it again to see how the characters develop now that I have a good grasp on what's going on.

We also churned out Jackass 2. It had it's funny moments but I fear we are now at the age where leeches affixed to eyes just doesn't merit insane laughter anymore. The last skit with the taxi driver was pretty funny though.

Sunday: March 18, 2007 - Poker Night Poker Night It's Sunday and that means one thing: Poker Night. Unfortunately Ian couldn't make it because of his dissertation work (Dr. Henning!) but we had a modest turnout of five. Later in the night Dr. H. showed up along with Rob and Amy 2. Jamie stole Chris' pork roast dinner and made it for everyone. I would like to point out she did a commendable job. For desert there was strawberry shortcake too. Mmmm. After poker Ian and Renee stayed for a game of Euchre. Go Midwest!!!

Monday: March 19, 2007 - Six Feet Under Six Feet Under I am Nate Fischer and I'm dead. I was killed off in last night's non-series finale. Man, that's the mark of a good show. Killing off the main character and not on a season/series finale. This is all of course in re-run form, but it's new to us. I think we have one, maybe two, weeks of the show left. Surely the series finale is coming up within the next month. I love that show!

Last night Jamie and I went over to her mom's for dinner. Steak and hash-brown like potatoes. Delicious!

Tuesday: March 20, 2007 - Surprise, Surprise Surprise, Surprise Well here's a shocker: Mark Prior and Kerry Wood are on the DL to start the season. I know, your jaw is on the floor and I understand. They've pitched what, like 10 innings combined the past three seasons? I think Dusty Baker is to blame for it (or steroids). He pitched them for a combined 8,000 innings in 2003. Oh well, maybe Alfonso Soriano can pitch because he's going to be a pretty lousy center fielder at Wrigley. Wednesday: March 21, 2007 - Man From Tallahassee Man From Tallahassee The LOST writers really have it in for Tallahassee. Sawyer got his STD here. It was referred to as "all strip malls and Waffle Houses" and now it seems John Locke's abusive, kidney-thieving father is "The Man From Tallahassee". Great. I admit, it's in the greatest town in the world but come on now.

I watched the show online because last night I had a steel drum practice and an impromptu poker game. Playing the music for this upcoming gig reminded me why people don't take steel drum music seriously at all. What crap. Anyway, I managed to win the unsanctioned, free poker game so that made up for a solidly mediocre rehearsal. Sorry Matt and Jara, but it's like all the music that comes out of UM(O) is really, really lame. I thought FSU's stockpile was dull but man, if I have to play one more three chord song in the key of F I'm going to shoot myself.

Weekend: March 25, 2007 - Happy Birthday Amy! Happy Birthday Amy! In celebration of Amy's 23rd Birthday we trotted down to Corner Pocket to play in a poker tournament. The buy-in was free and the winner(s) got certificates to play in a tournament somewhere else. The winner of the certificate tournament gets a free buy-in at a WSOP tournament. Chris won a certificate last time he went. Awesome!

Although both Jamie and I made final tables, Renee was the only winner from our group. In four hours I played about five hands and two of three of them were all-ins. The people were pretty sketchy but nice, except these two coke addicts who spent way too much time playing online poker.

Happy Birthday Amy! Thanks for planning a fun event for us.

Monday: March 26, 2007 - Six Feet Under: Series Finale Six Feet Under: Series Finale Last night Six Feet Under came to an end (the syndicated Forgot you! Screw off! version on Bravo). I feel like like 6FU is my Brian's Alias--I just wax on and on about how great the show is but no one really cares. Well the good news for you, gentle readers, is that this will likely be my last entry about it. Best TV show ever though, without a doubt.

Since I have neglected to post it for weeks now, here is the Doobie Brothers' Long Train Running (for Renee and other fans of 70s rock).

Tuesday: March 27, 2007 - Gator Nation Gator Nation The University of Florida Faculty Senate refused to give former Governor Bush an honorary doctorate from UF. Why wouldn't you? He favored your school the most. He gave you the most money. Your flag was second in line at the governor's mansion after FSU's, which had to be first since this is Tallahassee.

Speaking of the University of Florida, I really hate their Gator Nation ads. They go something like this: "Go Gators. Go Gators. Go start a Fortune 500 Company. Go write the great American Novel. Go cure cancer. Go to Mars. Go Gators". Sounds a little suspicious to me...

I don't doubt that both UF and FSU have had their share of Fortune 500 CEO's. Both have fair business schools and I'd certainly be willing to concede that UF's would be better than FSU's. It's everything else I have a problem with.

The Great American novel - Mark Winegardner (FSU)

Cure Cancer - Taxol (FSU)

Mars - Astronaut (FSU)

I'm not saying FSU is superior to UF; it's not. UF is better at more things. I just think it was stupid to use all the things FSU is better at in their commercials. (Go State!)

Wednesday: March 28, 2007 - Studio Meeting: LOST Studio Meeting: LOST Having many Hollywood connections, I was fortunate enough to get a transcript of the writers meeting before last night's Lost episode. Being a supporter of freedom on the internets, I am going to put it online for you today:

ABC Executive: I thought you guys said there were enough new episodes for the rest of the season.

Writer: Yeah, we miscounted so we're trying to write a new episode for tonight.

Exec: Why don't you just air the next one in the series and write a new one at the end.

Writer: Because if the fans are stupid enough to wait eight months between episodes we really just wanted to see if we could get away with airing an episode that we wrote the same day. Kind of like those kids that killed their neighbor just to see if they could do it.

Exec: Well, we tried it with Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives and it didn't work so well.

Writer: But we rule. And we're working from this old Twilight Zone script but, get this, putting it on the island.

Exec: But won't the audience be suspicious when they see an episode that has absolutely nothing to do with the show?

Writer: That's the beauty of it--they're so dumb they'll probably just think it's the smoke monster or something.

Exec: Ooh, the smoke monster. That's my favorite part of the story.

Thursday: March 29, 2007 - A Whole Lotta Nothing A Whole Lotta Nothing Jamie's been in Seattle the past few days so I've been trying to chop down a bunch of my side projects. Recently I've been working with Matt F. to write two songs that are going to be in this non-college movie. That's right, a NON-college movie. I think everyone who writes music needs a not-them champion of their music. I got Matt and that's awesome. I'm glad he likes performing it and making other people perform it.

The irony that my stuff will be in a movie is not lost of me. I don't really care much for movies and I don't even know what this movie is about. Oh well, I'm famous.

Good Things Take Time... 208 days until FSU Football (2010)

Time Machine: 02-09-2009 · 02-09-2008 · 02-09-2007 · 02-09-2006 02-09-2009: Here's something I don't understand: Why is taxpayer money called "our" money? The government is always saying "Oh, we're spending your money so well, blah, blah blah." It's not our money--it's your money. We paid it to you so it's yours. When your employer gives you your paycheck, it's no longer HIS money, it's YOUR money. And you can spend your money any way you want. For some reason, though, when the government spends THEIR money they like to pretend that it's ours and they have our best interests at heart. Neither case is true so I wish they'd stop saying it and acting that way. I realize it's a little bit different than the employer-employee example in that the employee does not dictate how much money they make but still, once the money isn't in your possession it can hardly be considered "yours".

I'd also like a law to be put in place where you could only complain about the government proportionally to your tax burden. If Warren Buffet wants to complain, step aside! We all pay varying amounts for the same amount of government services (they don't keep Warren Buffet any safer than they keep me) so it doesn't really behoove us to work hard for some sort of reward. I feel like more of a libertarian with each passing day.
I took the day off blogging but only because I was thinking of you. 02-09-2007: On the bright side, at least I don't live in Oswego, NY where they got eight feet of snow. Down here in the Deep South we've been battling upper-60 storms that bring no rain nor clouds. In fact, we've had some of the nicest weather in recent memory while the rest of you toil at your stupid schools or stupid jobs in -30 weather with freezing snow.

Tomorrow is my bon voyage party at RD even though I'll still be working there for a while. We're going to Bonefish (mmm). The last time I went somewhere nice to eat was Georgio's with Jamie and her mom and frankly, the food wasn't all that great. The problem with Georgio's is that the first time I went there I thought the food was awesome but I've been severely disappointed every time since. Alas.
02-09-2006: Since there's so much going on today let's take a break from the Percentages List. First, today is a Write The Caption day.

I got my ass kicked in Karate by this 18 year old girl who was studying to be a tattoo artist. She was almost done with her studies but she was still having problems "drawing straight lines". Super. We learned our first two kenpos tonight. I keep trying to get people to grab my wrists so I can do my new move but as pchris demonstrated at poker tonight, it's hard to do in practice without the crucial nut-kick.

Congratulations to elena who got her first (sanctioned) kill of the year and to tchris for finally ending the game at midnight and getting his first (sanctioned) win of the year.

Tomorrow we're going to take a five hour lunch and go to Gordo's. I'm pumped.
