I had Friday off because I had to work on the previous Sunday. It was a great deal and I'd happily do it again. When you have a weekday off you get to do all of the things you usually can't do because you, like everyone else, are at work. I didn't do any of these things, but I could have. I drank a lot of coffee and napped a lot. I feel like jamie did something Friday night but I think I just sat in my house and played NCAA Football 2003 on the Playstation. It was my day off! No nagging!

After laboring in coal-mine like conditions for the past 11 months I was pleased to get Labor Day off. Over the weekend the only major
thing I "accomplished" was buying a new TV for my office. I got it at Home Depot of all places but I wanted a 15" LCD and didn't want to spend $350 at Best Buy for a crap-brand when I could spend $250 at Home Depot for a Magnavox. The TV it replaced did not change channels or allow you to adjust the volume more than once a week. Usually each Sunday I'd decide what channel and volume to watch for the week and then hate my decision to choose Lifetime (hey, Fraiser was on) on near-mute. The new TV is nice and it looks good next to my two flat-screen monitors. Booyah.

Man, I spent so much time hand-making a graphic to celebrate FSU's win over Miami that I forgot to upload it. Damn. I spent a lot of time on that it. Oh well, I guess you'll get to see it tomorrow. Obviously Florida State dismantled Miami despite a rushing "attack" of all of 2 yards on the game. Even though the game was on all 450 ESPN channels we chose the traditional coverage with the two most biased announcers ever. Suck it! Before the game only one of the four analysts predicted an FSU win and they all commented about how great Miami's defense was and how
FSU's was too new to be any good. Busted! Man, the best play was Some Miami Receiver just flat-out dropped that ball up the middle. Oh man, that was hot. Now it's smooth sailing until Florida, but they play in Tallahassee this year and FSU will be 10-0 at that point so hopefully they'll stick it to the Gators to make up for last year's ass-whipping.

People are so stupid. The reason we're supposed to be teaching music to kids isn't so they'll grow up to play in Symphony Orchestras or live at home until they're 30. Most kids that play music grow up to do other things--and do those other things well. I feel like most people I know who had a healthy background in music are really, really good at what they do. AND, more importantly, they're really good at doing other things. Music forces you to think critically--gee, I only play four notes in this song and I can play them a trillion different ways, I wonder which way would be the best. Bam. There you go. Suddenly, twenty years later you're sitting at your adult-work-desk saying, "gee, I have to write this function, I wonder which way would be the best"--your foundation is already there. Bam.

Although not as gratifying as some wins in the past, I was able to fend off tchris and jamie
in a little three-way poker last night. At different points in the night we all had huge chip leads and somehow blew them. We're all big bettors so it was a lot of fun despite the low number of people.

Chompy, what's this? jamie and I scored some tickets from her sister's husband's parents for the Troy game so naturally we went. The game even more horrible in person than it could have been on TV. FSU couldn't hold onto the football to save their lives.
De'Cody Fagg was the only trustworthy receiver and there were no, and I mean no, trustworthy rushers. I wish I knew what went on in Lorenzo Booker's head. I bet it's something like, "'Lo, listen" (it should be pointed out that Lorenzo sounds strikingly similar to Alex) "don't dance this time. Just run straight ahead." Then he gets the ball and his feet take over. "Damn it, feet. Stop doing this, we've been over this a zillion times!" And that goes on like that every play.

First off all, barb is now a proud member of the Guilt Links. Over the weekend I plan to make a significant change to them so they load faster. You see, I'm scraping a full page's worth of data and since most of the sites have an RSS feed it will take much less time to parse through that instead. Now that I'm an XML master I can do such things.

Underneath the trashcan in my kitchen is a huge, dead roach. Unlike the typical 1"-1.5" roaches that typically dine with me nightly this one is about 3.5". I came home yesterday and it was laying in the middle of my kitchen floor on its back, nearly dead. My initial thought was "go get the dog". I got the dog. She informed that since it was dead she had no interest because she would not be able to kill it. I rebutted that it was not entirely dead; it's left antannae was still sending out blips calling for backup. Chompy left and ate some food. I had just spent the past hour throwing people around a room. Large, muscular people and landing dozens of blows across their bodies with Swiss precision. Suddenly there is, for intents and purposes (thanks Kathy!), a very, very small non-muscular person in my kitchen and despite six arms can't defend himself. Yet I can't fight him
off. Mustering up every ounce of strength I lift my garbage can and smack it down on him (Smackdown!) and go about my day. So if any of you who still in town want to come by and clean up a big dead roach from under my trash can please just stop by. Thanks.

Last night I hung out with Ricky. We had some beers and then trotted over to the 4th Quarter for dinner. Had the bun not totally fallen apart in a soggy mess I would have considered it to be a great Cajun chicken sandwich. Ricky had the Philly Cheesesteak. Once we parted ways I caught the tailend of Project Runway; with enough time to see Laura pull out the win and Kayne go home. Man, it was about time to see Kayne go. I know jamie has been rooting for Michael (Miker!) and now I think my decision to go with Uli was foolish. Oh well, good thing we don't have money riding on it.

Since jamie went to Jacksonville for a conference and she makes up 1/3 of our new poker group tchris and I made the tough decision to cancel poker. Since there was no poker and my internet was (and still is) down I watched the WVU vs. Maryland game on ESPN. Man, remember when Maryland was good? What happened? The announcers kept asking, "What's Maryland need to do next quarter to get back in this game?" with the reply always being "Better recruiting" with a clever laugh. Yeah, it wasn't funny the first time and it REALLY wasn't funny the next hundred.

We were totally gyped against Clemson. I mean TOTALLY. Sure, both our offense and defense sucked but our special teams had us tied until the last 0:08 seconds. Nonetheless, we should SHOULD have gotten the ball back on their 10 yard line after a fumble recovery but no. Ugh, it was horrible. Nothing worse than the walk of shame back to your car after a game like that. As a seasoned Cubs fan I have a well-prepared lecture on "waiting until next year".

Last night I did something I should have done long, long ago. When I moved to Florida I had sent most of my things down on a train
to save room in the cars. In my car's backseat were two things: my computer and boxes of CDs in jewel cases. If you've been to my home you've seen, stacked next to the cichlid aquarium in the dining room, about 8' of ascending CDs. They go up so high that you can't see what they are and because they're in the dining room there is no motivation to go in there to find what you want. No longer!

Over the weekend, while organizing my video games, I came across NCAA Football 2006, a game I purchased when Steve (who just started his MA at the University of Chicago yesterday), came to town last year. At the time my Playstation 2 did not work so we did not have a chance to play it. The only time I got to play it was at pchris ' house before he moved away. So on Monday I made a deal with the game. I would play the 2005 season on the hardest settings without reading the instructions. I would play the FSU
schedule and see if I could do better than the real team did without having any idea how to run 7/8 of the plays.

Today was my Grandma's Birthday.Happy birthday! I know you'll never read my blog--I don't think you've ever sat down in front of a
computer but it's the thought that counts. Chompy was sick last night and I was up from about 4:30am with her making sure she didn't make too big of a mess in the house. She's fine now though. I met up with christine and jamie for Clyde's lunch buffet yesterday. Man, that's the only reason I wake up on Wednesday's.

Last night at karate I learned that I really could kill someone with a single blow. We were practicing with pads and although I talk
about fighting a lot it never really sank in last night that it really would not be that hard for me to kill someone. Christine and I held fighting pads for each other and my god Chompy, my ridgehands would easily kill someone. It's kind of scary. After karate
Jamie and I trotted over to TChris' house for some poker. I was out first and Jamie won. Good work baby.

Thanks to Christine and a friend of her husband Erick, Jamie and I were
able to score some great tickets to the Rice game. Although they were "only" on the 2 yard line, they were best seats we've ever had--they were only about 10 rows up from the field. I felt like I could spit on Xavier Lee or catch one of his (errant?) passes. The stadium was really empty and we were able to lean back onto the seats behind us and get some major sun. We left in the third quarter because it was damn hot out and FSU was whomping Rice.

I skipped lunch to go to karate but I ended up ditching. The Monday and Wednesday classes are really hard on my old bones and I decided I would rather do some laundry and clean the clothes that cover my old bones than collect some new rugburns. Because I skipped karate my day was even more boring than usual so I had to find a really good picture. I'm not sure how this puppy got stuck sliding down some bamboo (bit slivers!) but I decided it was cute enough to merit its placement.

Karate was not terrible exciting. Christine and I didn't learn anything new and we spent a lot of time working on Combination 4. If I can roundhouse kick you to the ribs, you're dead. DEAD. We need to stop going to the early class sincethere is a test in two weeks. I would HIGHLY doubt we'd be ask to test since we just got our purple belts but it's a fun goal to shoot for. Today will be the wrap up of my 2005 Football Season. I know you're heartbroken.

Christine, her husband Erick and I met up with Jamie for the lunch buffet at Clyde's. It was as good as always but we had to wait for them bring out more London Broil since apparently all of the actors from those Hungry Man commercials were there first. After work Christine and I went to the adult upper-belt class and got a serious ass-whomping. I
had to work with this Russian dude named Mikhail who had no sense of humor. I attribute this to the fact he probably only knew 100 words of English and none of them were punchlines to any jokes. Oh well. There is no poker tomorrow because tchris is out of town and he's 1/3 of the group. :[

First of all, I'm sure you will recognize the Cutest of the Cute Puppies. Not only is she bar far the most cute but she could totally
kick the ass of any of those other pups. Three cheers for Chompy. Three cheers as well for Kathy, Fed-Chris and Jamie.
Kathy and Fed-Chris are getting married (ooh la la) and Jamie will be taking the LSAT on Saturday. I really don't have any news of my own to share since in comparison to these events my life is exceedingly boring. I might have strained my right bicep in karate yesterday but I'm also not sure if my bicep is big enough that it could be strained. Anyway, Happy Weekend.

Well, it looks like Ernesto is going to do nothing. I was hoping it was going to force the FSU/Miami game to a neutral location but
doesn't look like that's going to happen. FSU is 3 point underdogs despite half of Miami's team being suspended. I think FSU will always be three point underdogs to Miami until they can prove they can make a field goal when it counts. Last year Jamie
and I went to the game along with Tami and Ricky and saw Drew Weatherford debut with a crushing blow to the Hurrithugs. I'll always remember the time we went to the game and all the FSU fans to told the Miami fans to go back to Cuba. Ah, those were the days. Go State!
